The Fearless Girl, Happy Women's Month

The “Fearless Girl” statue stands defiantly – a bronze young girl, chin up and hands on hips, reminding us all what courage looks like. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.” And as Maya Angelou said, “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” To me, these quotes echo the spirit of Fearless Girl and countless fearless women.
Women bring extraordinary tenacity, intelligence, strength, and heart to everything they do – this month, we celebrate that spirit of fearlessness. The Story Behind “Fearless Girl”: First installed on March 7, 2017 (on the eve of International Women’s Day) in New York’s Financial District, the Fearless Girl statue was part of a campaign urging companies to add more women to their boards . Standing boldly opposite Wall Street’s Charging Bull, she instantly became a viral symbol of female empowerment – a “selfie sensation” and a new icon of the gender equality movement . Her message was underscored by the plaque at her feet: “Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes a difference.” (Notably, “SHE” was both a statement and the ticker symbol of an index of gender-diverse companies .) Originally meant to stand for just a week, Fearless Girl was so beloved that her stay was extended to a year and then made permanent. Today she stands proudly in front of the New York Stock Exchange – a daily reminder that women belong in every arena and will fearlessly face any challenge.

But Fearless Girl is more than a statue – she is all of us. She represents every woman who has ever stood her ground, every girl with big dreams, every mother, daughter, sister, and leader who refuses to back down. Most women embody the spirit of the Fearless Girl in their everyday lives – juggling careers, education, family, and adversity with unyielding determination. We see you. We are you.

As Women’s History Month 2025 draws to a close, let’s carry forward Fearless Girl’s legacy. Let’s raise our daughters to be bold and brave, encourage our sisters to lead, and support the fearless women around us every day.
